How It Started
Life has a funny way of taking us places we never planned to go. If you had asked me ten years ago what my future would look like, photography would not have been my answer. Looking back now, though, I can clearly see how God was quietly weaving together every season of my life, even the ones that didn’t make sense at the time. Some doors opened unexpectedly, while others closed just as quickly. In the moment, it was confusing and painful, but now I can see His hand in every step.
My very first experience with photography started when I was about eleven years old, taking photos of my American Girl Dolls. Slightly embarrassing? Maybe. But it was also the first time I realized how much I loved setting up scenes and capturing little moments. From there, I slowly started taking photos of my friends and family, learning as I went and falling more in love with photography with each click.
In 2016, I bought my first DSLR camera, a Canon Rebel T6i, with my own money. That camera opened the door for me to learn photography on a deeper level. I took photojournalism and joined yearbook staff in high school, where I learned how to document real moments as they happened. I was also part of our school news team, which helped grow my love for storytelling and visual media even more.
The Calling
Despite all of that, I never imagined photography would become my career. Since eighth grade, I had wanted to be a graphic designer. When I went to the University of Louisiana at Monroe, I majored in Communication with a concentration in Digital Media so I wouldn’t have to choose just one creative path. I loved design, photography, and videography, and I wanted the freedom to explore all of it.
During my sophomore year of college, I accepted an internship at a local company, where I initially helped with SEO. When they needed help in their photography department, I stepped in, and everything changed. Photography felt natural, exciting, and deeply fulfilling. I learned so much during that season, and for the first time, I could picture photography as more than just an occasional creative outlet.
When that opportunity ended after graduation, I was devastated. Honestly, I was angry. I felt like God had opened a door to a career path I truly loved, only to slam it shut in front of me. I fully expected to be working there full time after graduation, but God had another plan. For months, I felt lost and unsure of what came next. That season was difficult, but it pushed me to trust God in a deeper way than ever before.
A few months later, I found another job, and shortly after, I started my photography business on the side. What began as a small step of obedience slowly grew into something bigger. After a year, I took a leap of faith and stepped into photography full time on my own. Looking back now, I can see how every season, even the painful ones, prepared me for exactly where I am today.
How It's Going
Since those early days of learning and experimenting, my photography journey has grown in more ways than one. I’ve upgraded my equipment, refined my skills, and learned how to confidently serve clients with intention and care. Each season has shaped the photographer I am today.
Over time, I’ve honed in on an editing style that truly feels like me. My work is inspired by real connection, joyful moments, and the beauty found in everyday life. I aim for images that are bold and vibrant, yet timeless enough to be cherished for decades to come.
If you’re ready to create bold, vibrant, and timeless memories, I’d love to work with you!
